Boussac put the writing on the wall when runner-up twice at Northam last month before breaking through as $2.40 favourite in the Careers @ WA Racing Maiden (1400m) at Bunbury on Wednesday.
The big, strong son of Ridgeport stallion Ducimus settled in the running line behind Universal Hotness (Universal Ruler) who was an early leader in the Fremantle Dockers colours before Le Troy (Mahuta) took over with some quick sectionals down the side of the course.
Boussac (Photo / Western Racepix) reacted when Laqdar Ramoly asked for a response on the corner and he finished over the top of them to score by a length running away. He had made $45,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions and was initially with Grant and Alana Williams for a debut fifth at Pinjarra in April before transferring to Meryl Hayley at Gingin.
Bred by Ross Price, Boussac was sold by Ruby Racing & Breeding (as agent) in the Swan Valley and the Kojarena vendors also sold last Saturday’s LR Kalgoorlie Cup (2300m) winner Starry Heights (Star Turn) at the 2021 Magic Millions.
Price had trained Boussac’s dam Mojito City (Excellent Art) to win a Pinjarra maiden and she has a 2yo colt by Ducimus named Dominatus that cost Trevor Andrews $67,500 at this year’s Magic Millions. Mojito City is from a half-sister to G1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) winner Kenwood Melody (Royal Academy).
Besides Dominatus, Ruby Racing & Breeding sold a colt by Ridgeport sire Rommel from Real Beauty (I Am Invincible) to Simon Miller for $100,000 at this year’s Perth Magic Millions. He’s a younger brother to Rommel 3yo Rise to Glory who won his maiden for owner-trainer Sue Olive at Northam last Sunday.
Ridgeport Farm stands Rommel (Commands) for $6,600 alongside Ducimus (Snitzel) at $5,500. Both fees (inc GST). For bookings or more information, contact Marge Ojapold (0497 478 231), Grant Burns (0410 683 470), Steve Hoare (0409 987 970).
