The Simon Miller-trained mare Safekeeper had been placed five times before finally breaking through in the Accolade Wines Maiden (1000m) at Belmont on Wednesday.

A well-bred daughter of Safeguard, she led home a quinella for the Mogumber Park stallion from Hez Got The Safe.  They finished three lengths in advance of Dubai’s Daughter (Pride Of Dubai).

“She’s tough and I backed her up three times in three weeks earlier this prep,” Miller said.  “It’s good to get that one out of the way especially as her part-owners Pete and Helen (Burrell) are on track today.  She dropped in three back on the fence and was travelling for Willie (Pike).

“She comes from a good family and could have been a 2yo winner but for hurting herself in the paddock.  She has a good turn of foot and now we will look for some Westspeed Platinum races.”

Mogumber Park welcomed another well-bred Safeguard when Kiwi mare Miss Denni (Pins) foaled this filly at Bullsbrook.

Safekeeper (4m Safeguard – Castle Queen by Oratorio) was bred and sold by Mogumber Park for $130,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions.  Her dam’s only other foal is a yearling colt by Awesome Rock.

The family has been a very successful one for Mogumber Park and Safeguard.  Second-dam Clarecastle (Tribu) has thrown 8 winners from 8 foals including Specialism who was instrumental in Safeguard claiming the WA 2YO and Freshman titles in 2018-19

Safeguard (Exceed And Excel) completed a running double at Belmont with Sinful Living in the Perth Racing Hiring Staff Hcp (1000m).  It was her third win following a running double in 2yo company at Ascot during the Xmas – New Year break.

Sinful Living (3f Safeguard – Paris Memory by Redoute’s Choice) went out a $1.40 favourite and careered away in the straight to score by two lengths from Home James (Maurice) and Smokey Mountain (Oratorio).  “She appreciated the fence and felt comfortable in front even though she was carrying 59.5kg,” jockey Craig Parnham said.  “She’s come forward since her first-up run and is in for a good prep.”

The Pearce Racing-trained filly was bred by Jason Cheetham and sold through the J Farms draft (as agent) for just $10,000 at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions Winter Yearling Sale.  Wednesday’s win sent her earnings to $294,000 including Westspeed Bonuses of $120,000.

J Farms owner Janey Napoli kept a share in a Pearce Racing Ladies Syndicate and she also filled out a quinella after cataloguing runner-up Home James (as agent) at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions.  Pearce Racing struck with another J Farms yearling late last season when Soso Lucky (Lean Mean Machine) won at Bunbury and Belmont.

Mogumber Park owner Colin Brown implemented a cost-effective deal for broodmare owners supporting resident stallions Marine One and Safeguard this season.

Breeders booking into Marine One at $8,800 (inc GST) will receive another service at no extra charge to Safeguard who is advertised at a $4,400 (inc GST) fee.  Brown can be contacted for bookings or further information on 0408 251 880.
