Saturday was one to remember for Amelia Park with a winning double in Perth on top of a cracking return to the races by star mare Amelia’s Jewel in Sydney.

Amelia Park owner Peter Walsh was confident of a forward performance first-up in the G2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Randwick and she didn’t let anyone down with a fast-finishing second to French-bred import Royal Patronage (Wootton Bassett).

“She looks magnificent but isn’t screwed down at this stage of the prep,” Walsh said.  “She’s a real good doer and put on an enormous amount of weight while spelling at Segenhoe Stud.”

Amelia’s Jewel (5m Siyouni – Bumbasina by Canford Cliffs) impressed Tommy Berry who was aboard for the first time for new trainers Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald.  “The speed was on and that dragged a bit out of her but she was in for the fight,” he said.  “She was strong through the line and is in for a great prep.”

Amelia’s Jewel has any number of Group 1 spring options including the King Charles III Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on October 19.  It’s run at weight-for-age and she is priced at $15 in a market dominated by Fangirl ($3.40) and Pride Of Jenni ($3.80).

Not to be outdone on Saturday, her younger half-brother Bosustow (Blue Point) signalled a black-type breakthrough is imminent when runner-up to Darley colt Angel Capital (Harry Angel) in the LR McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

Bosustow was resuming after to trip to Brisbane where he was Group 1 placed in the J J Atkins Stakes (1600m) at Eagle Farm.  Like all the best 3yo colts in training, he is being set for the G1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 12 and winning that classic would see him top a future roster at Rosemont Stud.

Amelia Park’s 2022 Perth Magic Millions graduates Toropa (Toronado) and In Good Order (American Pharoah) held the fort back in the west with a winning double at Belmont.

Toropa made it five-from-five in the Schweppes Hcp (1200m) and she did it in style under Brad Parnham who had a handful of horse in running before taking a split in the straight.

“She’s a lovely filly and we freshened her up since that last win five weeks ago,” trainer Vern Brockman said.  “She’s still maturing and was up against an experienced field today.  We might give her another run or two and then come back for the autumn.”

Toropa was bred by Walsh, Brian Bradley and John Cipriani using Swettenham Stud’s successful shuttler Tornado (Ire) over Europa Point who had won at Moonee Valley and been Stakes-placed at Flemington.  They kept a share after the filly sold for $230,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions and she has returned $150,000 of that price-tag for a syndicate that also includes Lyn Sayers (Yarradale Stud), Dave Harris and Bill Willcock.

In Good Order (Photo / Western Racepix) is set for a successful campaign following his second-up victory in the Bisley Workwear (1600m).  He will continue to improve getting over further than a mile having earned black-type when placed in the LR Melvista Stakes (2200m) at Ascot during a classic campaign in the autumn.

He’s a son of former Coolmore Stud shuttler American Pharoah and his dam Angharad (Exceed And Excel) is a half-sister to Group 3 winners Rimraam (VRC The Vanity) and Sweynesse (ATC Gloaming Stakes).  In-form trainer Dan Morton bought him for $140,000 at 2022 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale and, once again, Walsh kept a share in a syndicate that includes Elio Galante, Fred Fairthorne jnr, Stan Quinlivan and Jim Anderson.

“In Good Order is a beautiful horse with a big stride and hopefully we can go a fair way into the spring with him,” Morton said after welcoming back his third winner on Saturday.  “He still developing and it’s in his DNA to stretch out to 2000m and further.”
