Ridgeport Farm stallion Rommel sired his 50th individual winner when Desert Whisper landed the first-leg of a double for Luke Fernie at Pinjarra on Wednesday.
Desert Whisper and Bravo Centurion (National Defense) are both raced by large syndicates and they were out in force to welcome jockey Pat Carbery back to scale on the stablemates. “There’s a fair bit of love going around for PJC at our yard,” Fernie said. “It’s a pleasure to leg you up, mate.
“And we love seeing big crowds flock to the winner’s enclosure after a Fernie Racing winner!”
Desert Whisper (Photo / Western Racepix) had finished second to Bravo Centurion on the final day of the 2023-24 racing season and went out a well-supported $3.20 second-elect to break her maiden down the straight course at Pinjarra.
Carbery sent her straight to the front along the grandstand rail and she had enough in reserve to score by a long-neck from the favourite Charino (Maschino).
They broke away from the field at the furlong leaving third-placed Hyperreal (Shooting To Win) to work home over a length in arrears.
Desert Whisper (3f Rommel – Faerie Whisper by Snitzel) was bred and sold by Ridgeport Holdings owner Santo Guagliardo for $34,000 to Belhus Racing at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions.
She’s the first foal of Faerie Whisper who had been purchased by Guagliardo for $120,000 at the 2015 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. She won at Ascot and Belmont and her second Rommel filly was bought by trainer David Harrison for $100,000 at this year’s Magic Millions.
The Rommel – Snitzel cross has a 100% strike-rate from 7 to race headed by Group 3 winner Snowdome (WA Sires’ Produce Stakes & Prince Of Wales Stakes).
