Roselee Park resident King’s Troop sired another impressive new winner when King’s Artillery scored with something in hand at Bunbury last Thursday.
He was the medium of solid support for the Cuprum Distillery Maiden (1427m) and was given every chance once eased out of an early battle for the lead by Willie Pike. Bird On A Wire (Galah) gave a good sight in front but was no match for the winner who let down like a nice type in the straight.
King’s Artillery is trained and part-owned by Pearce Racing with the Litton family’s Hamlin Bay Thoroughbreds. “He was one of five winners for the champion jockey on the day,” Pearce Racing posted. “He jumped well before being eased into the one-out and one-back position in running to enjoy the run of the race. He responded to Pike’s urgings and picked up strongly midway down the straight to score by just under a length on the line.”
Pike also rode King’s Troop gelding Trooper Phoenix to win the BOQ Maiden (2050m) earlier in the day for trainer Chris Willis.
King’s Troop sired the TBWA Winner of the Week from Puteri Jewel who was the first winner for former Taunton Vale sire Demerit (Lonhro) when she survived a protest at Ascot on Perth Cup Day in 2015. Puteri Jewel’s first foal Cosmopolitan Girl (Safeguard) won three races at Belmont for Pearce Racing and the Littons. Her 2yo is an unraced King’s Troop filly named Zarimbi with Gary Crispin and her latest is a filly foal by Shooting To Win.
King’s Troop (Redoute’s Choice) is a three-quarter brother to Snitzel and stands at Roselee Park for a $4,400 (inc GST) service fee.
