War Chant (USA) was a favourite among broodmare owners during his southern-hemisphere years and there were another two locally-bred 3yo winners by the former Yarradale Stud sire in June.
Chris Gales (Gervase Park) bred Doctor Jay who charged home to claim the Electrical Consultancy Hcp (1200m) at Pinjarra while Hostile Talk won for his breeder Tony Patrizi (Misty Valley Thoroughbreds) in the Marlston Forrest Hcp (1100m) at Bunbury.
Doctor Jay (3g War Chant – Jay Belle by Wanted) had defeated smart filly Extreme Love (Xtravagant) in a Bunbury maiden (Photo / Western Racepix) on New Year’s Eve and he looks a bargain as a $50,000 graduate from Gervase Park at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions.
Trainer Stefan Vahala was very pleased with both wins that has rewarded connections for their patience with an $88,000 bank-balance topped up by Westspeed bonuses of $38,850. War Chant sired him from a daughter of Group 1 Canterbury Guineas (1900m) winner Fine Society (Marscay).
“He showed an impressive turn on foot at Bunbury and I knew there was room for improvement,” Vahala said. “He’s still inexperienced but has shown promising signs of what’s to come.”
Hostile Talk was also winning for the second time for Grant & Alana Williams. They paid $62,500 to Misty Valley at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions and he’s passed that price-tag with $10 to spare!
“He had to dig in late after an interrupted jump,” Team Williams noted. “He’s lightly-raced and stepped up in distance today for his first look at 1100m.”
Hostile Talk (3g War Chant – Lip Service by Marooned) is one of 8 winners from his dam and among them is LR Challenge Stakes (1500m) winner Express Service (Danehill Express). The mare’s final foal is a 2yo colt by Long Leaf named Torqued Up.
Patrizi had purchased Lip Service for $37,500 at a Geisel Park reduction sale in September 2015. She was sold with a War Chant colt at foot and he won at Ascot under the name Brave Call for trainer Rhys Radford.
War Chant (Danzig) died just a month shy of his 27th birthday earlier this year and there’s a handful of foals from his final book due in the new season.
Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) stands at Yarradale this year for a $5,500 (inc GST) fee and stud manager Davy Hanratty can be contacted for further details on (08) 9574 6490 or 0429 326 904.
