Laced Up Heels was a ground-breaking black-type winner for Geisel Park and Luke Fernie at the Ascot summer carnival in 2022 and the same team have unearthed another talented filly who goes by the name of Rissoles.
With a moniker like that, you could be forgiven for thinking Rissoles is roly-poly but she lengthened like an athlete to win the Bisley Workwear Maiden (1300m) at Belmont on Wednesday.
Chris Parnham was aboard Laced Up Heels (Toronado) when she ended the unbeaten run of Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni) in the 2022 Burgess Queen Stakes (LR, 1400m) and he has some time for the latest rising star who was racing second-up to defeat Lyn’s Star (War Chant).
“We missed the kick and then I had a fight to settle her down until we got in the three-wide line. We were in a flow and I had a handful of horse on the corner. We balanced up and she really let down.”
Parnham mentioned Rissoles (Photo / Western Racepix) had run into a hot maiden field first-up at Northam last month behind Jokers Grin (Maschino) and Uukhai (Snippetson).
And she had been thrown in at the deep end during a initial prep earlier this season when fading from view in the LR Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (1400m) won by Investmentstrategy (Playing God).
Rissoles (3f Playing God – Snitz ‘N’ Giggles by Snitzel) is from a winning half-sister to Listed MVRC Carlyon Stakes (1000m) winner Acromantula (Written Tycoon). Their dam For Your Eyes Only (Bletchley Park) was also a Listed winner of a Gimcrack Stakes, Ascot 1000 Guineas and Beaufine Stakes at Belmont.
“She was stepping up from 1000m to 1300m today and is coming to hand nicely,” Fernie’s stable foreman Brian Kenny said. “She was further back than planned but she picked them up nicely. She should get a mile this prep and the further she goes the better.”
Rissoles was bred by Rangeview Stud and is the 24th individual 3yo winner his season by Darling View Thoroughbreds champion Playing God. She was an $85,000 buy for agent John Chalmers at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions on behalf of Geisel Park owner Eddie Rigg, Kevin Johnston and Simon Lill.
