Final Siren showed potential in his first prep late last year when completing a winning hat-trick at home in Albany and at Ascot before being run over in the LR WA Breeders’ Classic (1200m) at Bunbury in February.
He resumed in the Mrs Mac’s Hcp (1000m) at Belmont on Saturday with an all-the-way victory for Willie Pike who was aboard the Great Southern galloper for the first time. “I didn’t want to hand up the rail because it’s always an advantage for a big, raw horse like this one,” Pike said following the three-quarter length victory over Too Dardy (Demerit).
“He took luck out of the equation dictating in front and then rallied when he saw the other horse coming. He was never going to get beat. He looked a progressive type watching his replays and he’s confirmed that today.”
Final Siren is one of just a dozen named foals from I’m All The Talk’s last crop conceived at Mungrup Stud. He completed a running double for that crop as the latest TBWA Winner Of The Week following Skytalker who saluted at the midweeks for Pike at Belmont.
His dam Dawinner (Oratorio) was a Belmont 2yo winner for Michael Pateman and she was placed in Listed company as a spring 3yo in the 2009 Belgravia Stakes and Burgess Queen Stakes at Ascot. She was purchased for $4,000 at the 2020 Mungrup Stud Dispersal Sale by Mark Bayliss who is General Manager of the Albany Racing Club.
Final Siren is trained by Rebecca Bayliss for a syndicate that includes members of the Railways Football Club who also had a 129 – 85 victory over North Albany on Saturday. “I told Mark on the way up he could win,” she said. “He’s usually switched on before racing but was a bit quiet when we arrived today. I didn’t know whether that was a good sign but he lifted a gear under pressure.
“We bought Dawinner in foal to I’m All The Talk. We liked the sire and she was a lovely mare. We sent Final Siren to the Magic Millions but didn’t get what we wanted. The reserve was around $50,000 but it’s worked out quite well.”
