April was a month of many moving parts for Oakland Park and there was no shortage of black-type with its homebred stablemates Bustling (G2 Karrakatta Plate) and Sapphire Street (LR Sheila Gwynne Classic) leading the way for trainer Dan Morton.
Sapphire Street (3f Street Boss – Necklet by Snitzel) completed a double for Oakland Park owners Neville and Susan Duncan and Darley sire Street Boss at Ascot on Saturday following the earlier victory of Triple Jay in the Morley Growers Market Hcp (1200m).
The LR Raconteur Stakes (1400m) and LR Belmont Guineas (1600m) are likely targets for the promising filly on the back of her narrow victory over class mare Laced Up Heels (Toronado) which increased her earnings to $336,000 including Westspeed Bonuses of $92,950.
“To get the Listed win today for Oakland Park is fantastic,” stable rep BJ Ryan told the West Australian Newspaper. “Luke (Campbell) tracked Laced Up Heels and got her rolling to take advantage of the (4kg) advantage at the weights.”

Oakland Park bred Sapphire Street from Necklet who was runner-up to Mizlecki (Lope De Vega) in the 2018 Sheila Gwynne. Her first foal Tiffany Street is also by Street Boss and she won two autumn nurseries at Ascot in 2022. The mare has a yearling filly by Blue Point (Ire) and a weanling colt by Shooting To Win.
Resident sire Sessions kicked off Oakland Park’s April winner-count with Pinjarra winners Jaz Session and Sandfire Rose while Keep Your Cool (Deep Field) saluted at Gosford for trainer Ciaron Maher. She was bred and sold by the Duncans for $190,000 at the 2020 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.
Oakland Park also topped the Inglis Digital April Sale with proven broodmare Molto Allegro (Fast ‘N’ Famous) who made $300,000 to the bid of Brae Sokolski in partnership with Damian Degenhardt. She was sold carrying a PPT to Too Darn Hot (GB).
Bustling climaxed a successful month for the XX5 brand with a G2 Karrakatta Plate victory that was a sight to behold. The margin was the biggest since Lucky Street (Oratorio) scored by four and a half lengths in 2015 and he will go out an odds-on favourite for the G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Ascot this Saturday.
