Sheesh! The Gingerbread Man stayer put an exclamation mark on Yarradale Stud’s superb results at the Perth Magic Millions with a front-running victory in Singapore on Saturday.
Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) had made his name there as the Champion 2YO winning the Magic Millions Juvenile Championship and the Champion 3YO when claiming a domestic Group 1 in the Singapore Guineas.
Retired to Yarradale in 2013, Gingerbread Man has built a 14% stakes-performers to winners strike-rate and there’s been none better than Red Can Man who is his Chief Australian earner with over $1.5million in prizemoney.
Red Can Man is winding up for another campaign with trainer Steve Wolfe and looked as good as ever beating G1 Winterbottom Stakes runner-up Oscar’s Fortune in a Lark Hill trial this morning.
Sheesh (pictured) isn’t in that league, however, he’s paid his way earning the equivalent of AUD160,000 for Ontop Stables and trainer Richard Lim who shared the win on Facebook. “Sheesh sprints to victory over 1700! What a run! What a thrill!”
Emotions were also palpable when Yarradale Stud manager Davy Hanratty and his wife Susan sold a Playing God – Fanfara colt for $210,000 on Friday after trainer Jim Taylor fended off Grant and Alana Williams.
“I had the opportunity to buy him privately when his breeder Allan Morton passed away last year,” Davy told ANZ Bloodstock. “He’s a gorgeous looking colt and I fell in love with him. And I’m just grateful for all the support from the Morton family.
“He has a lovely big action and the stallion’s been going gangbusters.”
Susan Hanratty also bred Red Fifty Three who has won four sprints in Perth this season for a syndicate managed by Elio Galante. She sold the son of Gingerbread Man for $42,500 at the 2020 Perth Magic Millions and he’s earned over $365,000 to date. Among his owners is basketball star Damian Martin who wore No.53 for the Perth Wildcats.
Yarradale Stud ($2.28 million) finished second for overall Magic Millions turnover to Western Breeders’ Alliance and second ($103,864) on the averages table behind Mungrup Pty Ltd for vendors with more than three sales.
