Western Australian buyers outlaid $1.84 million for 16 yearlings at the Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney this week.
Three sessions of trade came to a close on Tuesday with the western bench led by Grant and Alana Williams ($480,000) and Byerley Bloodstock ($400,000).
Williams Racing targeted Spirit Of Boom which wasn’t surprising given the success of Keshi Boom in the G3 Champion Fillies (1600m) and LR Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) at Ascot in November.
The filly from Spiriting (pictured) sold for $220,000 as part of the consignment from Spirit Of Boom’s home base at Eureka Stud. Catalogued as Lot 732, she hails from the ‘Crystal’ family developed by former Racing Victoria Chairman David Moodie.
The Spirit Of Boom – Blume colt (Lot 124) is a half-brother to Ash Maley’s grey mare Jag The Joker (My Admiration) who won 8 races, including three at Belmont, prior to a cover by Sessions in September.
“He was great buying at $90,000,” Grant said. “He has style, strength and screams speed with a big back-end and powerful shoulders. He has a huge airway and our vet absolutely loved him.”
Williams Racing also bought a Written Tycoon colt (Lot 119) for $170,000. His USA-bred dam Bishop’s Pond (Curlin) was a Listed winner at Laurel and Delaware.
“He was our top pick! The presence of this boy was unmatched and we’re stoked to have him.”
Byerley Bloodstock’s Liam Peters paid $200,000 apiece for an Extreme Choice – Clockwork Orange filly (Lot 175) and an I Am Invincible – Princess Of Queens colt (Lot 604).
“The Extreme Choices are absolute gems and this one is all quality,” Peters said of the filly from Kingstar Farm. “We’re very familiar with her damsire More Than Ready (USA) and the residual value is a bonus.
“The I Am Invincible colt is from Yarraman Park and not many more words are needed for the deeds of Vinnie. They’re all talented and can get up and run and it’s good to inject some speed into the stable.”
Wally Daly owned the highest individual transaction for a WA buyer with a successful bid for a Nicconi colt from Zeditave mare Hoist (Lot 335). Trading under the ‘Yenrise’ banner, Daly bought him from Newhaven Park for $270,000.
Two Westspeed Platinum Bonus Scheme yearlings found new homes out of the Yarraman Park consignment on Day 1. Bred by Rod Russell and Keith Biggs, they comprise a Hellbent colt (Lot 70) to trainer Andrew Noblet for $100,000 and an I Am Invincible colt (Lot 97) to agent Paul Willetts for $70,000.
