Romming Danger had run a promising fourth at Northam during her first prep in the spring and she returned looking a lot more confident when a convincing winner of the Amelia Park Maiden (1000m) at Belmont on Wednesday.
A big 3yo filly by Ridgeport Farm resident Rommel, she was specked from $15 into $10 and enjoyed the run of the race for an equally confident Jason Whiting. They sat off a speed battle between Canny Rock, Rommel’s Goddess and Top Of The Walk (NZ) in the early stages and never left the fence in the straight.
“She knocked up after her only other run at Northam,” owner-trainer Graeme Ballantyne recalled. “It was pretty hot that day and she was up against some good ones first-up. We gave her good break in the paddock and she has done well since trialling at Lark Hill last week.”
Red Can Man’s half-brother Insyde Success won that Northam maiden, runner-up Tycoon Harry broke through next time in the Avon Valley and third-placed The Boss Lady went on to complete a hat-trick at Ascot. “She’s still learning but did that well,” Whiting reported. “She got really worked up at Northam and was a little bit that way today but not as bad.”
Romming Danger was sired by Rommel when he stood at Mogumber Park and so was her 2yo full-brother Horcrux who was a $105,000 buy for Simon Miller and the Ladbrokes Racing Club at last year’s Perth Magic Millions.
Their dam Magic And Danger (Stratum) has a Safeguard yearling filly (Lot 279) on account of the Bullsbrook stud for next month’s Perth Magic Millions and her latest cover was Mogumber newcomer Marine One (Capitalist) in September.
Mogumber Park’s Colin Brown and Fiona Lacey bought into the family at the 2013 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale. They paid $45,000 for Ms Bowie (Anabaa) when she was carrying Magic And Danger. It’s another successful Eastern States branch of a WA family going back to blue-hen Born Rich (Beau Sovereign).
