Never-say-die galloper Let’s Galahvant has been a faithful flagbearer for Galah and the former Rangeview Stud sire has another talent rising through the ranks named Desennea.

Desennea came from last to complete a hat-trick in the Drummond Golf Hcp (1800m) at Ascot on Saturday for trainer Jordan Rolfe and owner-breeder Ashlea Stelmach.  A Pinjarra maiden winner on debut in March, he has gone to another level this prep earning over $232,000 in prizemoney and Westspeed bonuses.

His bank-balance is vastly inferior to Let’s Galahvant ($625,000) but it still reflects favourably on their sire who may well return to Western Australia next year.  He is currently based at Zhongli Thoroughbreds in the NSW Southern Highlands at Burradoo.

“Galah is in superb condition, however, we’ve decided it’s not viable to go ahead with our original plan to send him to China,” Zhongli manager Jonathon Scully said on Monday.  “Covid restrictions meant he’s been stranded here for over twelve months.”

Galah (pictured) is proven in Western Australia and Zhongli principal Gu Tao has priced him for a quick sale.

The 15 year-old Group 2-winning son of Redoute’s Choice covered six books at Rangeview Stud and his fertility rates regularly topped 90%.

Jordan Rolfe reckons Desennea will get over more ground going deeper into this prep.  “He has a lovely turn of foot but hasn’t been able to capitalize in his last couple of starts.  I told the stewards we would ride him cold from that alley today.  He settled and let down beautifully for Micheal (Poy).  It was great to win for Ash.  She has supported me since I used to work for her parents Jerry and Chris.”

Desennea is a younger half-brother and stablemate to Toni’s Spirit (Vert De Grece) who has won at Belmont, Northam and York this season.  Ash Stelmach bought their Peters Investments-bred dam Persona (Lonhro) for $3,250 at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions Autumn Sale.  She won at Belmont and her second-dam Miss Margaret (Marscay) was a Group 1 winner at Flemington and Morphettville.
