Kermit’s Luck was the catalyst for Yarradale Stud’s latest winning week when he dispatched a field of maidens with ease at Pinjarra on Thursday.
Taking advantage of the inside barrier after a slow getaway, he railed up for Clint Johnston-Porter to lead on a long rein before booting clear in the TABtouch Scan My Bet Maiden (1300m). Johnston-Porter’s irons were still on the dashboard well after they won pulling up by two lengths from Bhullar (Bradbury’s Luck).
Stewards reported the 3yo son of Darley sire Kermadec raced greenly on debut and trainer Luke Fernie knows he must have plenty to work with this season. “CJP had an absolute stranglehold leading all the way at Pinjarra Park,” he declared. “And well done to the big group of owners who’ve joined Perth’s fastest growing stable!”
Kermit’s Luck’s dam Light My Fire (Myboycharlie) was purchased by Yarradale’s stallion & yearling manager Davy Hanratty for $12,000 at the 2020 Inglis Digital March Sale. She was carrying the Pinjarra winner and he made $50,000 for Hanratty through Yarradale’s consignment to the 2022 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Light My Fire was subsequently sold to Amelia Park’s Stephen O’Neill and he bred a Gingerbread Man filly from her last October. The mare changed hands online for a third time in as many years in March and is now owned by Bullsbrook breeder John Paikos whose growing bloodstock portfolio includes Randwick winners Devils Arcade (Snowland) and Talent (Hard Spun) and NZ winner Imperial Hawk (Purrealist).
Peter Moody trained Light My Fire to win a Sale maiden in five starts as 3yo. She is closely-related to numerous Peters Investments feature winners including Galaxy Star (G1 Railway Stakes), Star Exhibit (G2 Perth Cup) and Perfect Jewel (G2 WA Guineas).
Yarradale Stud sires past and present continued the winning run with Gluten Free (Gingerbread Man) in the Kambalda Cup on Friday, Lucky’s Way (Bradbury’s Luck) and Ginger Baker (Gingerbread Man) at Belmont on Saturday while Blitz ’em Henry (City Place) broke his maiden for trainer Yannick Valenti at Broome on Saturday.
