Secret Identity took advantage of a drop back in grade to score a decisive victory in the Drummond Golf Hcp (1650m) a Belmont’s midweek meeting on Wednesday.
The Adam Durrant-trained 3yo had finished out of the money in the LR Aquanita Stakes (2000m) on July 1 and stable jockey Clint Johnston-Porter gave him cover into a headwind behind front-runner Street Maschino.
Set alight approaching the home-turn, he took over at the top of the straight to score by three lengths from the short-priced favourite Bonjoy (Maschino). “The weight (59.5kg) was a concern but he was never going to get beaten,” Durrant said. “He’s tough and a real tradesman with the pedigree to be still racing as an 8yo.
“Today’s Westspeed bonus was handy, too. The owners will pick up about $40,000.” Bred and sold by Rangeview Stud for $40,000 at the 2021 Perth Magic Millions, he races for a syndicate managed by Perth Cup-winning owner Andy Phelan.

He’s a full-brother to LR Perth Stakes winner Wacked Out and their dam Real Hi (Real Jester) is an unraced half-sister to Barakey (G1 Winterbottom Stakes), Hi On Love (G3 Champion Fillies) and Ifestio (LR Belmont Oaks).
Real Hi’s yearling filly from the first crop of Rangeview sire Long Leaf sold for $145,000 to Grant & Alana Williams at this year’s Magic Millions.
Overall, the Long Leaf yearlings averaged 13 times his introductory service fee and Rangeview’s Robbie and Jody Gray have kept it at $5,500 (inc GST) this year.
So Secret (Danetime) has been a tremendous servant since retiring to Rangeview and will cover his 15th book for a $2,750 (inc GST) fee this year.
