The Paul Jordan-trained Red Square looked a classic colt for Mogumber Park with a courageous victory on debut in the Amelia Park Hcp (1000m) at Belmont last Wednesday.
The Russian Revolution youngster was well-tried as a $3.60 second-favourite following three trial wins and that support looked well-founded when he led the field out of the chute. He got the better of a duel with Pin Deep (Deep Field) in the straight and then lifted again hold late closer Why Me (Jimmy Choux).
Mogumber Park had purchased Red Square’s dam Go Daisy (Show A Heart) for $55,000 with a PPT to Russian Revolution at the 2020 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale. The mare hails from a family of Perth Stakes winners including Saul’s Special (LR Fairetha Stakes).
He was knocked down for $170,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions after Jordan fought off some spirited competition in the Swan Valley. “He was an outstanding yearling and I didn’t hesitate to pay that money for him,” Jordan recalled. “He will improve off today’s run and will grow into a beautiful three-year-old.”
Red Square can notch another LR Fairetha Stakes (1400m) for his family at Ascot on November 11. And a fortnight later, he could land a third G2 WA Guineas (1600m) for Jordan following Devilish Dealer (1999) and El Cordero (1993).
Desert Vixen was the second Mogumber Park graduate to salute at Belmont in the TABtouch-Westspeed Platinum Hcp (1200m) on Saturday. The Rommel – Kyleena (Scandal Keeper) mare was a $100,000 buy for Barry & Jan McRostie from the Bullsbrook nursery at the 2020 Perth Magic Millions.
