Widden Stud’s leading sire Zoustar topped the list of WA buyers at the Magic Millions National Foal Sale that kick-started the biggest auction of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Foal Sale was conducted over two sessions on Thursday & Friday (May 18 & 19) and Magic Millions will continue with Broodmare, Yearling and Racehorse Sales until Wednesday, 31 May.
Ridgeport Farm’s Santo Guagliardo paid $220,000 for a Zoustar filly (Lot 362) and Premium Bloodstock’s Grant Burns parted with $140,000 for a Zoustar colt (Lot 1305).
Third on the WA leader-board was Yarradale manager Davvy Hanratty with $50,000 for a colt by Earthlight (Lot 168). All up, a dozen foals will be heading west for a total outlay in excess of $560,000.
Guagliardo and Group 1 Bloodstock’s Matt Becker were taken by the Zoustar filly (pictured) from Run All Night (Charge Forward) on the Gold Coast. There was plenty of competition and she ended up a Top 5 Filly on the Magic Millions leader-board on Friday.
“Matt picked her out during inspections on the sale-grounds earlier in the week,” Guagliardo said. “She’s an exceptional type and she’s by Zoustar! We will take her back home before making any decisions.”
Her new home is on 160 acres south at Waroona where Guagliardo has just launched Ridgeport Farm with foundation sire Rommel (Commands).
The Zoustar filly comes from a family with 8 black-type winners world-wide below the third-dam. Four of them were 2yo Stakes winners including Rory’s Jester flyer Catnipped who won the VRC Maribyrnong Plate Gr.3, 1000m) at Flemington and Magic Millions 2yo Classic (RL, 1200m).
