WA studs have entered 16 yearlings for the Inglis April Online Sale (Early) that’s open for bidding from tomorrow, Friday (March 31) until next Wednesday (April 5).

Northern corridor nurseries Scenic Lodge (Muchea), Mogumber Park (Bullsbrook) and Gold Front Thoroughbreds (Breera) are working together to showcase the yearlings with inspections this Sunday.

“The Inglis Online platform has been very successful and it’s timely given there’s no Swan Valley Sales between February and June,” Scenic Lodge’s Jeremy Smith said.  “February can come along too early for many yearlings and there’s always withdrawals due to injuries.

“Our Long Leaf – Foxalicious filly knocked a hock before the February Sale and had to stay home.  It was only minor and she was alright within a week or two.  The dam was a speed-machine and she’s a compact type who should go early.”

Among its 11 entrants, Scenic Lodge has also catalogued a beautifully-bred Universal Ruler filly closely-related to Group 1 winner Come Play With Me (ATC Metropolitan Hcp) and a Snippetson half-brother to last year’s dual Listed winner Black Fantasy (Aquanita Stakes & Belmont Classic).

Universal Ruler is currently second for individual winners (30) among active WA stallions behind recent NSW import Shooting to Win.  He leads Playing God (28), War Chant (25), Sessions (21) and Gingerbread Man (21).

Mogumber Park’s Inglis Sale yearlings include a Rommel filly from The Other Harv (Haradasun) who won 8 races in Perth for trainer Alan Mathews.  “She’s a big girl and already tips the scales at 514kg,” studmaster Colin Brown said.  “She’s over 15 hands and covers a lot of ground.

“Our Safeguard colt from Braixen (Foxwedge) has plenty of bone with a strong shoulder and hindquarters.  “He’s bigger and more mature than the dam’s first foal Braixes Son who is another son of Safeguard.”

Braixes Son is now trained by Bruce Watkins for a partnership managed by Mike Ferguson and he resumes in the Patmore Feeds Maiden (1190m) at Narrogin on Saturday.

Mogumber Park is riding the crest of a winning wave with resident sires Rommel (Commands) and Safeguard (Exceed And Excel) and its third Inglis Sale yearling is a filly by Queensland-based Winning Rupert who has also made an impact in Perth.

Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) sired It’sarayday in his first crop and the Simon Miller-trainee won the LR Fairetha Stakes at Ascot in 2021.  “His filly has really come on and strengthened during the yearling prep,” Brown said.  “She stands over ground and is a nice mover.”

There’s residual value through her dam Joyous Day (Haradasun) who is a half-sister to Rosa’s Spur (G3 QTC Dane Ripper Quality) and Rosarino (LR VRC Talindert Stakes).  Second-dam Rosa’s Joy (Rory’s Jester) won a G3 Merson Cooper Stakes in Melbourne.

Gold Front’s Sue Olive is prepping an Awesome Rock – So Awkward colt (pictured) who was another late withdrawal from the Magic Millions Sale in February.

“He injured a fetlock but is quite okay now,” Olive said.  “He’s a big, strong colt and is a typical Awesome Rock.”

His dam So Awkward (Murtajill) is an unraced half-sister to G2 SAJC Queen of the South Stakes winner Tango’s Daughter (Redoute’s Choice).

His USA-bred second-dam Mirbeck (Gone West) won in England for owner-breeder Ben Sangster and she was imported to Australia in June 2000 by Patinack Farm’s Nathan Tinkler.

Sunday’s on-site inspections at the three farms are from 9am to 11am (Mogumber & Gold Front) and from 10am to 2pm (Scenic Lodge).  Other times can be arranged by appointment.

There’s also a Safeguard yearling colt hailing from Serpentine among a total of 40 WA lots of all ages catalogued for the Inglis April Sale.  The Safeguard chestnut from Alan Bansemer’s Namerik Thoroughbreds is the first foal of Planet Five mare A Sequel and he’s a three-quarter brother-in-blood to G2 WA Guineas runner-up Stay Safe.
