Western Australian buyers spent over $1 million on yearlings at the Gold Coast Magic Millions last month and they also broke seven-figures when the NZB National Sale concluded on Friday.
Bloodstock agent John Chalmers, who has been a regular buyer for Peters Investments at Karaka, topped the WA Book 1 list with $790,000 for five yearlings by Reliable Man (2), Nicconi, Ribchester and Yes Yes Yes.
Chalmers had purchased a Reliable Man (GB) filly for $190,000 at the 2017 Karaka Sale and, racing as Inspirational Girl, won a G1 Railway Stakes at Ascot and G2 Blamey Stakes at Flemington in the cerise and while silks while accruing $1.54 million in prizemoney.
The Reliable Man – Red Is The Rose filly (Lot 460) made $170,000 as did the Reliable Man – Semari colt (Lot 499). The latter is the second foal from a Sebring mare who won the 2019 edition of the G3 Epona Stakes at Rosehill.
Another Reliable Man heading to Perth is the Book 2 grey filly (pictued) from Flower of Love (Lot 768) that was knocked down to Ben and Dan Pearce for $75,000. She was offered by Gerry Harvey’s Westbury Stud and will become the first horse to race in his blue and white-sashed silks in Perth after he agreed to keep a 20% share.
“We’re stoked to have Gerry Harvey staying in the horse,” Dan Pearce told ANZ Bloodstock News. “It’s great to have him involved and hopefully we can have a bit of success for him. I picked her out and got John (Chalmers) to have a look and he was really keen on her as well.
“I think she could be a chance in a race like the Champion Fillies. She’s out of a Redoute’s Choice mare and is going to keep developing being a November foal.”
Pearce Racing also purchased a Tivaci – Holiness filly (Lot 238) for $50,000 from Waikato Stud in Book 1. “We’ve always wanted to come to Karaka,” Dan said. “A couple of our owners in Perth have bought here previously and they’ve always spoken highly of the sale and the horses bred over here.”
