Pearce Racing trained its second grey winner by Yarradale Stud sire Gingerbread Man when Charcoal Chaos was successful in the Great Western Insurance Brokers Maiden (1200m) at Geraldton last Thursday.
Their first was Yarradale homebred Born Spicy in a Pinjarra Maiden last year. She is a daughter of the Stud’s grey flash Born Priceless who won the 2001 edition of the G2 Karrakatta Plate.
Grey foals by Gingerbread Man are a rare commodity and his grey winners are even harder to track down in the Australian Stud Book. Neville Parnham is the only other trainer to prepare a grey winner (Platinum Star) by the bay son of Shamardal whose career-count is 72 individual winners of 226 races.
“Charcoal Chaos (Photo / Western Racepix) put the writing on the wall when finishing a close second at York at her previous start,” Pearce Racing reported.
“Joe Azzopardi gave her the run of the race in the box seat and then finished strongly after taking a gap between runners on straightening.”
Charcoal Chaos has been nominated for Mount Barker meeting that opens the Great Southern season this Sunday. She’s the final foal from Ash (Fusaichi Pegasus) and is a half-sister to the War Chant (USA) winners Forgotten Jewel and Blue Horse.
Ash won a Bunbury maiden in a short, six-start career for Yarradale and trainer Trevor Andrews. Second-dam Rich Resource (Chanteclair) was an Ascot 2yo winner for Lou Luciani and, among her half-sisters, was the afore-mentioned Born Priceless.
Charcoal Chaos was bred by Doris and David Keens and they also bred Gingerbread Man winner Bahama Mama who was raced by Gingerbread Man’s Singapore-based owner Joe Singh.
Yarradale stands Gingerbread Man ($5,500) alongside War Chant ($8,250). Both fees (inc GST).
