Oakland Park sire Sessions started April with a double at Pinjarra and he kept up the winning momentum with Timely Outburst at Ascot last Saturday.
Adam Durrant trains his Pinjarra winners Tales of Manhattan & Garage Days and Stephen Miller puts the polish on Timely Outburst who made a welcome return to the enclosure after a first-up victory in the Carbine Club Hcp (1000m).
Miller was pleased with the front-running performance although he’s still none the wiser for her loss of form earlier this season.
Timely Outburst started her career with an unbeaten hat-trick at Ascot twelve months ago (pictured) but disappointed during a second prep in the spring. “She didn’t come up last time in,” Miller said.
“She had only spelled average and her coat was off so we decided to put her out again. We couldn’t get her right, for what reason I don’t know, but she looks magnificent now.”
Miller was confident the real Timely Outburst would turn up on Saturday and that spelled trouble for her rivals. She crossed from a wide draw and waved good-bye to them with a sharp turn of foot at the top of the straight.
“She settled into a good rhythm and I was able to give her a breather,” reported jockey Brandon Louis. “She gave me maximum in the straight and it was a good win.”
Timely Outburst (4m Sessions – Carryon Regardless by Mosayter) was bred and sold by Bellbridge Park’s Siobhan Campbell for $25,000 at the 2019 Perth Magic Millions. Her current stats stand at 5 wins in 10 starts for earnings of $227,990. That includes Westspeed Bonuses of $66,050 and she’s also building up a credit account with EPONA.
Oakland Park was in the frame twice this month with homebreds Galactic Storm and Tiffany Street who are by Darley Victoria sire Street Boss (USA). The former is a beautifully bred 3yo from quality stakes winner Stormy Nova (Metal Storm) and he won first-up at Pinjarra for a partnership that includes Durrant and the Litton family of Hamlin Bay Thoroughbreds.
Tiffany Street followed up with a winning debut at Ascot’s Anzac Day meeting on Monday. She had won a Belmont trial in March but trainer Dan Morton and his staff had to correct barrier issues before she was ready for the Amelia Park Lodge Plate (1100m). Responding to that remedial work, she rolled across the field to sit outside the leader Diamond Rocks before drawing away for an impressive two-length victory.
The Street Boss 2yo filly is the first foal of Necklet (Snitzel). The mare has a yearling filly by Street Boss and was bred back to Darley’s Group 1 Shamardal stallion Blue Point (Ire) last year.
Necklet won at Ascot and was Stakes-placed at Belmont. She’s an older half-sister to Garage Days and his Sessions full-sister The Front Bar who won 5 of her first 8 starts in Perth before being sold by Oakland Park in December.
“We’re very respectful of the WA form and she’s been on the radar for a while,” agent Mark Pilkington said after signing the deal on behalf of Seymour Bloodstock’s Darren Thomas. “She will continue racing out of Tony and Calvin McEvoy’s Ballarat stables and will hopefully perform in high-speed races in the future.”
Oakland Park’s Neville & Susan Duncan are no strangers to success around Australia but their XX5 brand wouldn’t have ventured to Tasmania too often. Their Star Witness 3yo filly Sally Sunshine set that right with a barrier-to-box maiden win at Launceston on Good Friday.
The Duncans sold her to clients of Peter Moody at the 2020 Inglis Melbourne Premier before she was on-sold to Tassie trainer John Blacker. Her dam Azwa (Haafhd) has a yearling colt by Blue Point.
