Over a dozen Westspeed-eligible yearlings have been entered to start the 2025 sales season at the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January.
Magic Millions released the catalogue this week and it numbers 1,401 lots over six sessions commencing Tuesday, January 7. One of the highlights is the full-brother to Group 1 winning mare Amelia’s Jewel who parades late on Day 1 as Lot 234.
Offered by Amelia Park owner Peter Walsh through Segenhoe Stud (as agent), he was conceived at Haras de Bonneval where Champion French stallion Siyouni (Pivotal) covered Irish-bred mare Bumbasina (Canford Cliffs) to southern hemisphere time.
That same combination produced Walsh’s Group 1 winning mare Amelia’s Jewel four years earlier.
Mr Brightside (rails) levels up with Amelia’s Jewel in last Saturday’s G1 Champions Mile at Flemington
Amelia’s Jewel bowed out of the Melbourne spring carnival last Saturday with a brave fifth in the G1 Champions Mile (1600m) behind Mr Brightside (NZ) but alongside top-class mares Fangirl and Stefi Magnetica.
A week earlier at Flemington, she was home in the G1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) only to be nailed late by Kiwi Champion Atishu (Savabeel).
“What a run from our girl,” Amelia Park posted on Facebook after the final day at Flemington. “She hasn’t won this time in but oh so close and to race so consistently in this company we are absolutely thrilled. Bring on the Autumn!”
Her full-brother was sent out here as a weanling last year with Bumbasina and he impressed Astute Bloodstock’s Louis Le Metayer who had sourced the mare for Walsh in 2018. “I love him. He has an incredible temperament and is so chilled. That’s why we were confident to put him on a plane as a foal.”
Amelia Park’s other yearling at the Gold Coast on account of Segenhoe (as agent) is the Day 3 Russian Revolution filly from homebred mare Lady Cosmology (Universal Ruler) catalogued as Lot 580. The dam was a Group 3 winner in Adelaide (Proud Miss Stakes) and a dual Listed winner in Perth (Supremacy Stakes and Burgess Queen Stakes).
Lady Cosmology’s colt by Zoustar made headlines at the 2024 Gold Coast Magic Millions when knocked down for $1.3 million to James Harron. Named Valedictorian, he debuted in the G3 Breeders Plate (1000m) at Randwick last month with Tommy Berry aboard but was knocked out of contention in an incident that led to a rival jockey being suspended.
Dawson Stud also has Pinatubo filly (Lot 702) being offered on Day 3 as well as a Capitalist colt (Lot 855) on Day 4. They have both been catalogued among a Newhaven Park draft of 42 yearlings.
Darley shuttler Pinatubo (Shamardal) won a G1 Dewhurst Stakes (1400m) at Newmarket and has his first southern yearlings parading on the Gold Coast. The Dawson filly is from Rosehill winner Muy Bien (Encosta de Lago).
The Capitalist colt out of Rosie Rocket is a half-brother to the Dawson-bred mare Kissonallforcheeks (Written Tycoon) who won to Group 2 level in the Let’s Elope Stakes (1600m) at Flemington. She was a $120,000 graduate through Newhaven Park at the 2019 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
