Bullsbrook-based John Paikos celebrated another success for one of his mares when Queen Of Hawks won the TABtouch Maiden (1110m) for Pearce Racing at Geraldton on Thursday.

The Sessions filly is still a work in progress but she had a class edge on her rivals after stalking outsider Big Bopper (God Had Spoken) off a quick tempo second time out under Tash Faithfull.

Queen Of Hawks started an even-money favourite after finishing fourth on debut to Keep Ita Mystery (War Chant) at Belmont last month.  “She was green in the straight today but looks to have an abundance of ability,” Paikos said.  “Her dam Imperial Hawk is here on the farm and has just foaled down a beautiful filly by Ducimus.”

Imperial Hawk (Purrealist) is bred in the purple and had won over 2100m in New Zealand at Tauranga (2) and Ellerslie for trainers Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman.  She’s a full-sister to Hawkspur (G1 Queensland Derby) and Devil Hawk (G3 Newcastle Spring Stakes) and was sent to WA after agent Damon Gabbedy bought her for $30,000 on behalf of Oakland Park at the 2018 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

She changed hands again in the west and her Ducimus filly is the latest foal to arrive for Paikos following a Maschino – Pale (Ad Valorem) Filly, Manhatten Rain – Jessej (Sepoy) Colt, Gingerbread Man – Talent (Hard Spun) Filly and Hi World – Light My Fire (Myboycharlie) Colt.

The Oakland Park connection continues with Paikos sending his mares Safety Bay (Safeguard) and Desert Vixen (Rommel) to Oakland Park sire Ingratiating (Frosted) who is covering his initial book for a $9,000 (inc GST) service fee.
