Madhi Girl won’t be wasting any time making a black-type impression this season with Listed races like the Belgravia Stakes (1200m) and Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) on the horizon at Ascot.
The Winning Rupert filly was runner-up in the RL Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at Pinjarra in February and she resumed with a furious finish to nail a nose victory in the National Pump & Energy Plate (1000m) at Belmont on Saturday.
“There was a query on the Soft 5 today but the conditions were more favourable than her trial last week when the wheels were spinning on a Heavy 8,” trainer Simon Miller said. “The 1000m was probably too short but they did rock & roll up front which set it up when she lengthened in the straight.
“She did a good job and has earned another shot at black-type.”
The $125,000 Belgravia Stakes (1200m) is scheduled for Saturday, October 26 and $125,000 Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) for Tuesday, November 5.
Madhi Girl (Photo / Western Racepix) is by Geisel Park sire Winning Rupert and was bred by Digby Beacham before selling to Teleah Hulse for $68,000 at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions. Her dam Very Angry Gal was an Ascot 2yo winner for Miller in 2016 and she is a half-sister to LR Bolton Sprint (1200m) winner Profit Street (Viscount).

Very Angry Gal is now owned by Jorja Gammage who grew up at Scenic Lodge and is stud manager at Dorrington Farm in Victoria. Gammage reports the mare has an outstanding Profiteer filly which is eligible for the 2025 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
“She wasn’t that far off the speed even though the leaders took off,” winning jockey Steven Parnham offered. “I had a fair bit of horse underneath me. She was happy on that ground and I knew they would come back to us.”
Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) has a 62% strike-rate from his first three crops with 109 individual winners headed by Group 1 mare Semana. She was back in harness for trainer Bjorn Baker last month when fourth in the G1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.
