Dark Dream relived the glory days when seeing off Red Wave for a fighting victory in the Road To Magic Millions Hcp (2212m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The 9yo son of Geisel Park stallion All American had triumphed in the G1 Queensland Derby (2200m) at his most recent appearance in Brisbane but that was back in June 2018. He had been to Hobart, Hong Kong and numerous ports of call in between since that last trip to the Sunshine State.
Wyong-based Allan Kehoe is the latest trainer to win with Dark Dream following Kerry Parker, Frankie Lor and Ben & JD Hayes. “That was another tenacious display. He’s an old marvel.” Kehoe claimed.
“It’s an amazing result for his owner Mary Jayne Basson (pictured) and she has retained his 2yo full-sister after the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale earlier this month. The story is far from over.”
Their dam Buchanan Girl (Lion Hunter) is due deliver another All American any tick of the clock at Geisel Park.
It will be the 19 year-old mare’s final foal. She will be sent to the Hunter Valley to retire and will be accompanied by her All American yearling colt and foal.
Dark Dream isn’t the only veteran by All American knocking on the door. Brasada is three runs into a new career with trainer Shawn Mathrick after being previously prepared by Leon & Troy Corstens.
He’s another 9yo and he can cause an upset at Kyneton on Tuesday. Tendon injuries restricted Brasada to a half-dozen starts by the time he was a 6yo and, when right, he’s a serious horse as evidenced when he speared through a gap to win the VRC Living Legends Hcp (1600m) at Flemington last season.
Looks Like Elvis is the leading Australian money-earning 9yo by All American having banked over $1 million for a partnership managed by Jim Critchley. He changed hands for $110,000 at the 2016 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and his 11th win isn’t far away following an unlucky run in the Filante Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Stewards reported: “Looks Like Elvis had to be severely checked approaching the 400m to avoid the heels of Banju which had lost ground abruptly at that point.”
All American stands for a $4,400 service fee at Geisel Park alongside newcomer Aysar at $8,800 and Manhattan Rain at $8,250. All fees (inc GST).
