Dawson Stud-bred graduate Sight Success is on track for another crack at the Group 1 Longines Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) following a resounding victory in the G2 Premiers Bowl (1200m) at Sha Tin on Sunday.
Sight Success (7g Magnus – Tarp by Bletchley Park) was runner-up to Wellington (All Too Hard) in Hong Kong’s signature sprint last year and will be right in the mix for the next renewal on December 10.

Dawson Stud owner Graham Daws had watched another of his graduates go close in a Group 1 last November when Kissonallforcheeks finished second to Darley sprinter Paulele in the Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot.
Kissonallforcheeks (6m Written Tycoon – Rosie Rocket by Blackfriars) was bred and sold by Daws for $120,000 through Newhaven Park at the 2019 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
She won 8 races to Group 3 level in Perth and added a Group 3 and Group 2 at Flemington last year to increase her bank-balance to $1.7 million for managing part-owner Darren White and Jill O’Sullivan.
Entered for the Magic Millions Online Sale in August, she attracted several bidders but just failed to make a $1 million reserve. White is a successful WA-based mining businessman and, after retaining the mare, decided she should start her second career at Darley Kelvinside in NSW.
On October 4, Kissonallforcheeks was covered by Anamoe (Street Boss) who is also launching his stud career following an award-winning season topped by six Group 1 victories in Sydney and Melbourne.
Daws agreed with White’s choice to back Anamoe whose introductory service fee of $121,000 (inc GST) is by far the most expensive of any newcomer this season. “She deserves the best. That mating is very interesting and we will be keen to see her offspring.”
Daws had welcomed a half-sister to Kissonallforcheeks by Newgate Stud sire Capitalist in August. Another half-sister Star Of Rosie (Star Witness) delivered her first foal, a colt by Vinery sire Ole Kirk, on October 10.
The Sight Success family has been another success story for Dawson Stud. His Moonee Valley-winning dam Tarp (Bletchey Park) has thrown four winners and her yearling is a full-brother by Magnus.
Tarp’s 2yo Be Responsible (Long Leaf) will likely join Sight Success having been purchased by Hong Kong agent David Price for $140,000 at this year’s Perth Magic Millions. Price paid $45,000 for Sight Success at the 2018 Perth Magic Millions and he’s earned the equivalent of AUD5.05 million for trainer John Size and owner Tam Wing Kun.
“He’s a very consistent, honest horse and always seems to be able to sustain a long preparation,” Size said as Brenton Avdulla brought him back to scale after the Premiers Bowl. “Brenton chose the right option following the two leaders and got a lovely run into the race. Last season, he ran very well in the International Sprint and I’m hoping he will do the same again.”
Sight Success overpowered Hong Kong’s reigning Champion Sprinter Lucky Sweynesse (NZ) on Sunday and his next assignment will be the G2 Jockey Club Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin on November 19.
