Angels Impact kicked off the WA 2yo season with a breathtaking last-to-first burst to win the Quayclean Plate (1000m) as a $41 longshot on Saturday.
The son of I’m All The Talk trailed the field of debutants on the corner at Ascot but somehow weaved his way through traffic to get up in a hectic finish from London Image (Headwater). There was less than a length between the first five home.
The stewards report emphasised the degree of difficulty in his first-up victory. “Angels Impact commenced awkwardly and was crowded shortly after the start. Jockey Keshaw Dhurun had to steady when inconvenienced passing the 250m and was then held up for clear running until the 150m.”
Trainer Mike Santich, who bought him for $27,500 at this year’s Perth Magic Millions, was blown away by the performance. “I didn’t believe he could win from there. To do that was amazing. He had been working well with Nobellity who has won races here but raceday is a different story.”
Angels Impact was conceived in the first of two crops sired by I’m All The Talk (Stratum) at Darling View Thoroughbreds following a transfer from Mungrup Stud. His dam Angel Sky (Hurricane Sky) won three races at Belmont with Grant Williams and her earlier foals include Sky Talker (I’m All The Talk) who was runner-up to A Lot Of Good Men on debut at Belmont in July.
Angel Sky is owned by Forest View Farm’s Ben and Jo Duncan and her latest foal is a yearling filly by Playing God.
The Duncans had also bred and sold I’m All The Talk filly Phence Sitter to Steve Wolfe at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions. She changed hands for $55,000 and broke through second time out in the Avon Valley Toyota Maiden (1000m) on Wednesday.
Phence Sitter is a younger full-sister to $250,000 earner Warm ‘N’ Fuzzy. Their dam What A Rumour (Oratorio) was unraced and a was a three-quarter sister to G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Lucky Street (Oratorio).
