Quality colt Snowdome is set for another profitable preparation after scoring second-up in the Quayclean Hcp (1000m) at Ascot on Easter Saturday.
The Rommel 3yo had won the G3 WA Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and Perth 3YO Classic (1000m) last year for a partnership that includes Ridgport Holdings breeder Santo Guagliardo, Neville and Carol Parnham, Bob Pearson and Mike Fagan.
“He was well above himself first-up here last month so it was good to see him much more relaxed today,” Parnham said. “We tried him over ground in summer but I think he will develop into a good sprinter. He’s a really nice horse and Chris (Parnham) was comfortable in the lead.
“The second horse (Cosmopolitan Girl) did a good job to get that close although there was a significant weight swing in her favour (6.5kg). The time (56.71s) was a good gallop, too and I’m very pleased with that win.”
Snowdome won’t back-up in the $200,000 The Joey (1200m) at Ascot next Saturday. Instead, he will continue to target lucrative Westspeed Platinum Scheme this time in. Saturday’s result sent his earnings past $456,000 boosted by bonuses of $141,900.
Snowdome (3c Rommel – Snow Pixie by Snitzel) led home a Mogumber Park-sired quinella from Cosmopolitan Girl (Safeguard). The Bullsbrook stud sold him (as agent) for $180,000 at the 2021 Perth Magic Millions. His older full-sister Pixie Chix won last year’s RL Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy (1200m) at Pinjarra and his 2yo half-brother Snow Prince (Safeguard) is an acceptor for the G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) this Saturday.
Guagliardo, who sold their dam Snow Pixie to Gingin breeder John Latham in April 2020, has been active in the bloodstock market with the recent acquisition of Buzzoom (Safeguard) for $215,000.
Buzzoom has Listed wins to her credit in a Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) and Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m). “I thought she was good value and I was really happy to buy her,” Guagliardo told the West Australian Newspaper. “I primarily wanted her as a broodmare, but she’s only four so she’s still got a year or so of racing in her.”
Guagliardo’s blue and lime silks have also been seen to advantage in South Australia most recently with Boognish (Sooboog) at Murray Bridge. She won by five lengths on debut in the Magic Millions Plate (1200m) a fortnight ago.
Boognish (pictured) is trained by Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea as is Ridgeport Holdings filly Out Of Aflica (Rommel) who won a Morphettville nursery last season.
Guagliardo claimed a black-type first in Adelaide last month with Show Royale (Showtime) in the LR Cinderella Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville. Trainer Lloyd Kennewell (as agent) had purchased the 2yo filly for $85,000 at the 2022 Inglis Classic Sale.
